On Homecoming night at Protective Stadium, Delvon Gulley delivered the biggest play of UAB’s season.
The Blazers trailed East Carolina by 14 early and by eight with just over a minute left, then drove 93 yards in 62 seconds to force overtime. UAB scored first in the extra period to go up 24-17. On ECU’s third play of its overtime possession, Gulley jumped the route, intercepted quarterback Emory Williams at the UAB 20 and went the distance, 80 yards, for the touchdown that ended the game, 30-17.
Gulley finished with five tackles, two pass breakups and the game-winning return. The win moved UAB to 4-3 (2-1 American) and was the program’s first overtime victory since 2018.
